There is a need to build capacity of professionals working in bush control and biomass utilisation fields from the partner organisation Ministry of Agriculture Water and Forestry (MAWF). The BCBU project will support MAWF staff members in furthering their education through the provision of a special fund. NUST will carry out the financial administration of the scholarships on behalf of GIZ and actively support the students towards a successful completion of the studies. The selection of students will be done by MAWF.

These scholarships are available for MAWF staff members to complete their honours or master’s degrees as required by MAWF. Master students must have completed their studies before the finalization of the BCBU project to incorporate their research. All Master scholarships shall only be towards topics which are directly related to this project. At the end of each semester MAWF will provide a performance report on these students as part of the six-monthly Grant Agreement Progress Report. Based on the reported performance, the MAWF will recommend for each student either a continuation or a termination of the study fee funding. The final decision on the continuation of the funding for each student will eventually be made jointly by MAWF, NUST and GIZ.
